Before you make anything, bring the pieces together.

A few emails, an old campaign and a list of requests can be enough to start. I’d bring the useful pieces together before we begin designing.

  1. Start with what needs to happen

What needs to change for your audience? Perhaps partners need to understand an offer, or sales needs a clearer product story. That gives the creative a purpose.

  2. Bring the material you already have

Share previous work, product notes and brand guidance. Tell me what is current and what can change. There may already be a useful starting point.

  3. Get the different views on the table

Ask product, sales and marketing what matters most. Bring differences into the conversation early, and agree who will make the final decision.

  4. Separate what we know from what’s still moving

Separate confirmed details from open questions. We can often develop a direction while some information is pending, provided we know what might change.

  5. Put the agreed starting point in one place

Keep the audience, message, required work and outstanding decisions in one shared summary. Make it short enough that everyone will actually use it.
